The Douglas DC3 was designed during the height of the Great Depression and in the early days of the Airline Industry by Douglas Aircraft Corporation. The Douglas DC3, a refinement of the Douglas DC2 carried 34 passengers in more comfort than previous airliners. The DC 3 was faster, more efficient and safer than it's closest competitors, And was purchased by many airlines all around the Globe. Production was diverted during World War II to the C-47 Gooney Bird military version and many civilian airliners were converted to the military requirements for use during the World War Two. After the war, most of the DC-3s and C-47s were returned to civilian and commercial use and others were sold to allied air forces around the world. The DC-3 once again carried Paying passengers and was still in service carrying passengers in the 1970s with a few airlines.These days Most of the DC-3s are relegated to aircraft museums, graveyards and occasioanlly a charter outfit still carrying cargo in them, and a few Passenger carrying runs through nostalgic Airline Outfits that keep the legend alive still to this Day.
